The McCain Commision
John McCain would be the perfect person to head a commision to uncover waste, fraud and abuse in Pentagon spending. He tends to be obsessive compusive about government waste and has not been afraid to take on the Pentagon before. His war hero cred gives him the legatimacy to take on the issue of national defense and fraud.Give him an ax, a scalpal, a chainsaw even a flame thrower if he wants and tell him to go find the trillion dollars the Pentagon can't account for, uncover the corruptions of the "military industrial complex", reexamine the roll of private contractor.
If I was Barak Obama I would point John McCain at the Pentagon and say " go find the waste".

Beyond Belief
Recently on Meet The Press, John McCain made a comment about Presidents raising taxes during a recession. McCain and Brokaw went back and forth about Ronald Reagan and whether he increased taxes during or just after a recession. It got me started thinking about Bill Clinton's first budget, which raised taxes during a recession.
At the time not one Republic voted for it and their leaders claimed it was a job killer and would drive our economy into a ditch. They were wrong. What resulted was arguably the most equitable expansion of the 20th century.
The neo-conservatives then told us that they were the daddy in the ro
om, who understood the world and how it worked and knew how to use our singular super-power status to forge a new Pan-American world order. They were wrong. We now find ourselves in two armed conflicts, thousands our our youth dead and millions scared with the demons of war. After 9/11 the Republicans told us they could keep us safe in a scary world where even your neighbor could be a threat and The Dixie Chicks just might be unpatriotic. They were wrong. Instead we see a constitution under assault from a war president. A warrantless wiretapping system being used for voyeuristic phone sex, extraordinary rendition of Innocent people and torture is seen as an enhancement.
The conservative majority preached to us the gospel of unregulated capitalism. That the unshackling of markets from government interference would lead to a greater good. They were wrong. We are now looking into an economic abyss of uncertainty with millions losing jobs and homes and a few spreading the wealth with state sponsored bonuses.
They now tell us that Barak Obama is a socialist, maybe even a communist. His plans will kill America's jobs and lead our country from a recession into a depression.
How can it be that anyone can take the Republicans claims or predictions seriously? How many times can you be wrong and still have people listen and believe that you have the answers to our problems? How can John McCain stand before the American people and speak of his "shared philosophy" with the conservative movement and expect us to take him seriously?

Anchorage Daily news endorses Obama

"...few who have worked closely with the governor would argue she is truly
ready to assume command of the most important, powerful nation on earth. To step
in and juggle the demands of an economic meltdown, two deadly wars and a
deteriorating climate crisis would stretch the governor beyond her range. Like
picking Sen. McCain for president, putting her one 72-year-old heartbeat from
the leadership of the free world is just too risky at this time.""Sen. Barack Obama, the Democratic nominee, brings far more promise to the office. In a time of grave economic crisis, he displays thoughtful analysis, enlists wise counsel and operates with a cool, steady hand. The same cannot be said of Sen. McCain. "

This is War
Today we stand at the abyss of economic collapse. Jobs are falling everyday, foreclosures are rising and consumers are staring more and more at empty wallets. The powers that we trusted have shown that "Capitalism is the astounding belief that the most wickedest of men will do the most wickedest of things for the greatest good of everyone" as John Maynard Keynes said.
When we look at the situation we now face is it important for the American people, the consumer to realizes that we are the engine of the economy. The American consumer is two-thirds of US economy. We are the power of the economy. And our well being has to be the focus of any recovery.
In this environment we cannot look to the private sector to start creating new jobs. No tax cut is going to convince a CEO to hire worker if the markets are not there. So we have no choice but to look to a government push to create jobs. For these jobs all we need to do is look around. Our roads and bridges are crumbling. We need to retrofit government facilities for green energy technologies. Tax incentives for homeowners to do the same, are just a few at a quick glance.
My plan would be for a 5 year two trillion dollar plan to rebuild America. There have been times in history when we have been called upon to put financial concerns a side
and spend what needs to be spent. The Great Depression and our World Wars are time when we saw the cost as irrelevant to the need. This is just such at time. Republicans are always quick to point out that our deficit to GDP ratio is relatively low in historic term especially when compared to WWII.When the private sector is pulling back is exactly the time for the government to start pushing forward.
[THC] The Human Condition

This is the first in series of entries about the human condition. It is not a series of musing about the experiences of life but about the human condition of wonderment. That place in the human mind that set us apart from the other creatures of Earth. The ability to dream and contemplate random thoughts, ideas and questions about the world around us.The entries will appear with the [THC] prefix in the title. And much like the process of the mind these entries will appear randomly So Here goes the first entry:

Plumbing the Depths of Stupidity
"Wurzelbacher met Obama in Toledo this week and said the Democrat's proposal to raise taxes on the wealthy would keep him from buying the business. "
If a 3 or 4% increase in his income taxes on a plumbing business making $250k a year is enough to stop "Joe the Plumber" from buying the business? Then Joe might just be to stupid to own that business.

Alaska Grow Cold on Sarah

Anchorage Daily News:
Sarah Palin's reaction to the Legislature's Troopergate report is an embarrassment to Alaskans and the nation.
Palin's response is the kind of political "big lie" that George Orwell warned against. War is peace. Black is white. Up is down.
Gov. Palin and her husband were obsessed with Wooten the way Capt. Ahab was obsessed with the Great White Whale. No Wooten, no peace.

Solar from Space: A Real Manhatten Project

“But when you look at the kind of things we as a modern society spend billions of dollars on, [supporting] the idea of limitless clean energy from space is not such a bad goal,” he said.
FREEDOM RIDER

John Lewis has earned the right to say what ever he wants.
John McCain thinks what he has to say is important. " I think John Lewis. John Lewis was at the Edmund Pettus Bridge. Had his skull fractured. Continues to serve. Continues to have the most optimistic outlook about America. He can teach us all a lot about the meaning of courage and commitment to causes greater than ourself..."
John Lewis:
"As one who was a victim of violence and hate during the height of theCivil Rights Movement, I am deeply disturbed by the negative tone of theMcCain-Palin campaign," Lewis said in a statement. "Sen. McCain and Gov.Palare sowing the seeds of hatred and division, and there is no need forthishostility in our political discourse..."
"During another period, in the not too distant past, there was a governor of the state of Alabama named George Wallace who also became a presidential candidate. George Wallace never threw a bomb. He never fired a gun, but he created the climate and the conditions that encouraged vicious attacks against innocent Americans who were simply trying to exercise their constitutional rights. Because of this atmosphere of hate, four little girls were killed on Sunday morning when a church was bombed in Birmingham, Alabama..."
"As public figures with the power to influence and persuade, Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin are playing with fire, and if they are not careful, that fire will consume us all. They are playing a very dangerous game that disregards the value of the political process and cheapens our entire democracy. We can do better. The American people deserve better."

Pork for Good
John McCain:
He voted for nearly a billion dollars in pork barrel earmark projects, including, by the way, $3 million for an overhead projector at a planetarium in Chicago, Illinois. My friends, do we need to spend that kind of money?

McCain's Terrorist Problem

G. Gordon Libby:
"John McCain is a good, personal friend of mine"
"Now if the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms comes to disarm you and
they are bearing arms, resist them with arms. Go for a head shot; they're going to be wearing bulletproof vests." ... "They've got a big target on there, ATF. Don't shoot at that, because they've got a vest on underneath that. Head shots, head shots.... Kill the sons of bitches." Saturday, October 04, 2008

Why Pay More?
I often hear people speak out against Universal Health care by saying "Oh and how much is all this going to cost?" Well I would ask why does it have to cost anymore then we spend now?
First, we have to look to where most of the money is that gets paid for a person or families' insurance. It comes the personnel expenditures of businesses. If a business is spending 12k or more a year for a family of four. Our question becomes how do we re-allocate that money into a workable universal system?
We can either require employers take what they spend
on each employee insurance premiums and turn that into wages that the employee can use to buy into the Medicare system. Which would greatly sure up Medicare by increasing the pool to all of us and bring younger healthier workers into the system. Or, we could have companies pay what they pay now, with a promise it won't increase for 5 years, into the medicare system. It also important to add at this point that Medicare has a lower inflation rate then private sector insurance and a single system will make rooting out fraud and abuse easier. And it must be stressed that fraud and abuse are a serious priority. Inspectors General all around.
As for the the monies the federal and state pay for Medicaid, those would be folded into Medicare.
We spend almost twice as much as any other industrialized country in the world on health care. There's no reason we should have to spend anymore then we do now.
