This is War

Today we stand at the abyss of economic collapse. Jobs are falling everyday, foreclosures are rising and consumers are staring more and more at empty wallets. The powers that we trusted have shown that "Capitalism is the astounding belief that the most wickedest of men will do the most wickedest of things for the greatest good of everyone" as John Maynard Keynes said.
When we look at the situation we now face is it important for the American people, the consumer to realizes that we are the engine of the economy. The American consumer is two-thirds of US economy. We are the power of the economy. And our well being has to be the focus of any recovery.
In this environment we cannot look to the private sector to start creating new jobs. No tax cut is going to convince a CEO to hire worker if the markets are not there. So we have no choice but to look to a government push to create jobs. For these jobs all we need to do is look around. Our roads and bridges are crumbling. We need to retrofit government facilities for green energy technologies. Tax incentives for homeowners to do the same, are just a few at a quick glance.
My plan would be for a 5 year two trillion dollar plan to rebuild America. There have been times in history when we have been called upon to put financial concerns a side and spend what needs to be spent. The Great Depression and our World Wars are time when we saw the cost as irrelevant to the need. This is just such at time. Republicans are always quick to point out that our deficit to GDP ratio is relatively low in historic term especially when compared to WWII.
When the private sector is pulling back is exactly the time for the government to start pushing forward.
