It's absolutely unbelievable to watch democrats once again being the cause of their own failure. Members of Congress are digging in are willing to bring the whole thing down because of their narrow self interests. Democratic senators from farm states are ready to go to the mat to protect farmers making over $500,000 a year (which is mostly big corporate farms) from cuts in farm subsidies. Members from smoke stack states are willing to bring everything down to protect their industrial polluters.
We missed an opportunity to reform health care in the Clinton Administration because democrats inability to work together in a spirit of shared sacrifice and a common good.
Unless President Obama is able to bring about a unprecedented ground swell of public support and pressure on congress, this will be another opportunity missed.
